Day 4 - Fort Nelson B.C.

Bear count - 6
Coyote count - 1
Sun
Rain
Lightening

One 15 minute rain and lightening storm during the day, apart from that a beautiful sunny day that ended here in Fort Nelson at 21 degrees and its still bright & sunny at 10.00pm...guess we are heading to the land of the midnight sun.
The first day on the Alaska Highway is not exactly a challenging ride as it consists of mainly long straight stretches along side the Rockies.

Only one bear sited today but the closest encounter yet as we slowed to take a look at him, he just stared at us in disgust and you could tell he wasn't too happy being distracted from chewing on his dandelions.
The coyote appeared during the brief storm and just ran across the highway infront of us prompting a gentle tap on the brakes to ensure he didn't become a trophy.

Lunch was enjoyed alongside the Sikanni River which was in  full flood and running fast and strong. Wifey very impressed with the washrooms as they looked somewhat "artisan" on the outside but proved to be designer chic inside and very modern.

This is the original Mile Zero signpost located in Dawson Creek and not as photographed as much as yesterdays example.
As we get further north it is starting to feel like we are getting away from it all as there is hours of nothing but trees and the highway complimented by
distant mountains all day.
